Ross Lynem

I’ve called Calgary home for most of my life. My wife Natalie and I, live in a little artists cottage in a lovely inner city neighbourhood.

Our love of animals greatly influences my subject matter as does the natural world we call home. We support several animal rescue groups and regularly foster lost and neglected dogs. We have a loveable Boxer boy we call “Jiminy Cricket”and a 100 lb. Staffordshire Bull Terrier named “Jemima Puddle Duck”.

Sitting on the step of our house with my sister when I was 3 is my earliest childhood memory. I remember clearly, watching the clouds roll by and being fascinated by the changing light and moving shapes. My love for our environment began at an early age! I had an exciting 30 year career with CTV Television but my desire to be an artist was ever present. A portable paint box with a few brushes always close at hand.

Television production satisfied my artistic side. It wasn't until I took early retirement in 2007 and found a studio space in an art gallery that I was really able to indulge my longing to be a painter. Colour fascinates me and I enjoy experimenting and playing with the relationships they have with one another. Like people, some colours play well together and can be good friends. Others like to be on their own, quietly meandering about. Like me!

I have been featured in Splash 14, had numerous solo shows and group exhibitions. Ravensburger licensed one of my watercolours for a puzzle in the “Canadian Artist Series” which was distributed worldwide.

I have learned in my life that there is beauty everywhere. Even in the darkest of places. The greatest gift art has given me is the ability to see differently. My goal is to share with you in my paintings this beauty with just a touch of whimsy added for good measure.
